Conducted by Nic Raine, recorded by Jan Holzner, mixed by Gareth Williams and produced by James Fitzpatrick for Prometheus Records.

Nic Raine and The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra once again prove themselves masters of Tiomkin’s difficult music, capturing every nuance and instrumental detail of the score, from every soaring string line to each growling, flutter-tongued brass lick. The sparingly-used chorus lends harmonic gravitas to Rome’s imminent demise. Producer James Fitzpatrick records with his typically clean sonic landscape. With each successive recording, Fitzpatrick, Raine and the Prague musicians continue to top themselves. That this Tadlow release is on another label in no way affects the quality of the production. THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE is one of Tiomkin’s towering achievements and film music fans should celebrate. Rome, it seems, has risen once again. (Flm Score Monthly)

The November tour of South America by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nic Raine and expertly organised by Josef Pokluda and Renata Vilimova was a great success but not without its drama….especially when the orchestra reached Sau Paulo minus cellos, trombones and tuba! The highlight was of course 2 open-air concerts infront of 20,000 people in Santiago with special guest artist Itzhak Perlman. The daunting task of supervising the PA sound was left to James Fitzpatrick ….who took a few days out of his vacation to “lend a hand”!

RELEASED ON APRIL 18th, 100 YEARS SINCE THE BIRTH OF MIKLOS ROZSA

“Father was extremely overjoyed at the prospect of scoring the life of Holmes. As he says in his autobiography, Double Life, the script had the wit, the imagination and the charm of Wilder’s best films, and I was certain that this was going to be the best of them all….as to the music, I enjoyed adapting my Concerto

This really was a wonderful opportunity for my father to join his two musical “lives” together. His score would have appeal to not only the aficionados of film music but to the more “sophisticated” concert goer. This World Première recording produced by James Fitzpatrick brings to life his beautiful, captivating and enchanting score and in addition gives us a wonderful bonus of listening to the music that father composed for the film that was cut out of the final version. This truly is a wonderful tribute to my father’s centennial! Thank you.“
